Nothing But the Blood of Jesus

What can wash away our sins? Truly not the rush of the world, the excitement of danger, waves of alcohol, nothing will clean us completely.

Nothing but the real blood, dripping off the cross and splattering in the rough dirt at the foot of the wood. Leaving dark red stains on the dusty rocks.

A couple weeks ago, the pastor at Quay church in Florida spoke that sentence above. I added a little more detail that brings the mental picture to life, but it still hits just as much.

I had never felt so deeply about Christ’s sacrifice until that moment, when the impact of why we do communion hit my right in the chest.

This past Sunday we did communion, and I recalled the phrase as we took the flesh and blood of Christ, and I felt something I had never before. It hit me in the throat, so hard I teared up. I noticed how truly intimate our relationship with Christ has the potential to be. By potential, I mean what we can do to further our relationship with Him. We must be constant in communication and fully reliance on Him in every part of our being to completely connect with God.

I’m finding it easier to remember to pray these days. Which is something I’ve always struggled with! So far, it’s been mostly in relation to preaching the Gospel to one of my closest friends, but I do remember to talk to God about the mundane things, like getting a good workout in or praying that my dinner nourishes my body.

Teaching a friend about the Gospel has been a learning opportunity for me as well. I’m always willing to share what I believe, and how Jesus can change your life, but it’s not until now where I realize that it’s hard to articulate the correct words. I never want to force someone into Christianity, but I want to be transparent about what I value. There’s a balance between convincing someone of Christ, and sharing your convictions about Christ. It is so incredibly difficult to find words to express everything that He has done for me, and I want to share His goodness with everyone around me. I pray every day for my close friend Alex, and that she would find His light in her life and learn to carry out the kindness of His love in her own life.

I love when she asks questions about faith, because it challenges me in ways I never knew before. I grew up knowing Christ, and sometimes have no idea how to explain certain aspects of His love, because my parents helped me to do that! But I love seeing how He’s moving in her life, slowly showing up in every aspect of her day. I pray the answers come to my heart and I speak from the Word of God to properly share His love and wisdom with her.
